Spears and arrows seemed to be flying around following his virtue. Everybody watched in amazement his smashing display of skill using his sword, his easiness when moving, the gracefulness of his rhythms and the variety of his attacks. Paramjit, Otali’s father and wise grandfather to the princes, was the Gupta emperor who was most loved by his people. Visiting the imperial city when Paramjit was the ruler was a pleasure. It was a beautiful place surrounded by groves, fragrant flowers, melodious and clear streams, clean and fresh springs, and impressive temples and palaces. When getting to the palace, visitors used to walk under the fresh shades of trees surrounded by beautiful flowers, sweetly enlivened by the trill of naughty little birds. Birendra, a brave general with the power of a tiger, offered himself to teach Gupta princes the secrets of swords. Although he actually was a little ambitious, he dealt very well with the task.
